Introduction:

Canada’s five-year caregiver immigration pilots were launched in June 2019 (The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilots) replacing the Caring for Children or Caring for People with High Medical Needs Pilot programs ending in June 2019.

  1. A maximum of 2,500 principal applicants for each program per year
  2. Occupation-specific work permits for caregivers, providing the ability to change jobs quickly if necessary.
  3. Open work permits for spouses/common-law partners and study permits for dependent children, to allow the caregiver’s family to accompany them to Canada.
  4. Labour Market Impact Assessment is no longer needed for employers hiring a caregiver from overseas
